30 Days of Art - Day 30

30 Days of Art - Day 30 The Grand Arrival and can't believe I've really done 30 days. The whole project was based on the idea that every day you would do some artwork, work on something anything just make some art for at least an hour, but that quickly expanded into much longer because once you start then you get engrossed in something meaningful. This feels like real growth and I've learned so much, so very much about myself and what I want to do with this interesting medium - Paint - so I can't stop now and will continue with Jann's Great Painting Adventure . . .

BTW the art for today includes another altered photo - what do you think? about this piece or the whole 30 day thing?

30 Days of Art - Day 29

30 Days of Art - Day 29 listening to news about the Storm of the Century on the east coast - hard to concentrate, feeling much humility about the power of nature, sending strength and courage to all those iinvolved . . .

30 Days of Art - Day 28

30 Days of Art - Day 28 one corner of a larger piece, how much time can disappear into something like  this? hours days lots and lots of days but who's counting maybe those people who always ask how long did it take you to do that, my standard answer now is 3 months or sometimes 6, depending on size, which is probably not accurate but then again it could be. When you're making art do you set a timer before you begin?

30 Days of Art - Day 25

30 Days of Art - Day 25 substrate of maps with cobalt teal, quinacridone gold, paynes gray and some journaling about momentum -

inertia is a force that works against you when you're doing Nothing
inertia is a force that keeps you going
when you start doing Something
(especially if it's scary and you're not sure you can do it)
inertia is a force

I've known this forever but only just begun to do it, but wait it's just a bunch of words isn't it?
another tiresome quote?
not really  . . .

30 Days of Art - Day 23

30 Days of Art - Day 23 substrate was an old board book and painted over with some yellow ochre, quinacridone magenta and various kinds of tape, even some bandage gauzey texture. Have I mentioned how much fun I'm having with this whole 30 days thing? Journey of exploration leading me places never imagined, follow the brush, let the Flow continue . . .

30 Days of Art - Day 22

30 Days of Art - Day 22 hand carved stamp luxurious reds and contrasting colors, a little spray paint and a stencil, meanwhile we had the Seattle run through of rain, hail, heavy winds, lightning, a little snow and inexplicably a funnel cloud that touched down twice, temperatures have dropped into the 40s and feels even colder yes, that was all in one day - is that why I chose that spring green color? artists can control their own environments even if we're painting while wearing fingerless gloves . . .

30 Days of Art - Day 17 - acrylics on canvas collaged base composition. When you're doing 30 pieces of art this quickly sometimes this is as far as you get, but I'm tired of saying it's a work in progress so I'm not going to mention that, so here it is (for now)

30 Days of Art - Day 14

30 Days of Art - Day 12

30 Days of Art - Day 12 first gray day of Seattle change of season which will probably last until the end of March with varying monochrome shades of charcoal, dark blues and foggy whites. To mark the occasion, it was necessary to do some sunshiney art to keep around and use as needed

30 Days of Art - Day 11

30 Days of Art - Day 11 painting backgrounds this is a base layer, you need lots of base layers, like a whole pile of them, then you go back later and add details to your foundation

30 Days of Art - Day 10

30 Days of Art - Day 10 this one got pretty wild with tape and collage and painting, lots of painting and even some fabric with ribbon fragments and some old wallpaper. There's so many kinds of tape today just lay some down over your collage and then they turn fabulous showing their textures when you paint over them, try one try a dozen, just fragments just layered over other collage, love this one, time disappeared while I was working on it, that was the best part, love the Flow when it comes to visit

30 Days of Art - Day 1

30 Days of Art - Day 1 watercolor translucent effects over stamping and drawing on layer over layer and lots of layers I lost count of how many. That's the thing about sitting down at your worktable, you never know where it will lead you.

Here's my list for making art:

Go to your workspace and Start, that's the hardest part but is Step 1
Then make a few marks on any surface, it could be plain scary white or on top of a background you've already painted.
Pick up any of your favorite tools and let it wander over the surface
You can even close your eyes for this part
Then add some watercolor here and there, still being random
Add some stamping
Draw around some of the shapes you made

For me it all starts to work then and I'm mesmerized and exploring what it wants to be - the Adventure, the Flow

Thanks to Traci Bunkers 30 Days of Art for getting me started. Stay tuned for 29 more days...
